Jonathan Sant grew up in the north Herefordshire countryside and has a background in graphic design. He has written and illustrated local books, and between other work his commissions have included fabric design for a leading fabric supplier, logo design and book illustrations.
He now works full-time as a painter and illustrator. He uses mineral colours often including elements of sign-writing and always aiming to capture that timeless meeting-place between human consciousness and the material world. He paints onto either canvas or reclaimed timber, and his subjects characteristically include ‘animal portraits’ (often of animals which we traditionally eat!) as well as wide semi-abstract skies and ancient landscapes.
