Fine line drawings in blacking/paint and liquid paper.
John often works in pen and ink, illustrating a private world of myth and legend. He sees the work as ‘A Bestiary For our Times’. He uses a plethora of stimulus to produce his illustrations, including the Medieval world, dreams, journeys into the subconscious and Magic, Mystery and Folklore.
He left Secondary School at age 15. He feels his education really only started with 4 years at Art School in Wakefield gaining sufficient GCE’s for admittance to the Dip A.D. course.
He says: “Newport was a formative time. I walked through those double doors and opened a path to my future career. I was fortunate to win a competition open to all artists with Welsh connections throughout Europe for the first edition of the Welsh magazine ‘Mabon’. I also had designs exhibited in the Design Centre for Tywysog Cymru. Throughout I was supported and encouraged by my parents…I can never repay them”
