Tinka runs a woodworking studio in Herefordshire. She enjoys making things that are stunning to look at, feel amazing to hold, and that are used in people’s everyday life.

There can be something very appealing about bowls with straight sides. Here, the slightly inward sloping design encourages the eye to follow the line down the curve, which creates a smooth connection between the upper half of the bowl and the base. The bowl sits on a small foot, to visually lift it off the table.

This bowl has been made from a piece of Cherry that was sourced from a farm in the Golden Valley in Herefordshire, where it had been felled several years ago to create space for farming operations. This wood has a lovely reddish tint and a gentle grain pattern.

The bowl has been treated with food safe oils and beeswax.

Wash your bowl immediately after use with warm water and a mild detergent and dry with a towel. To refresh the look of your bowl, sand it lightly with 0000 steel wool and apply a thin layer of natural oil or wax. Over time, contact with food will create a patina in your bowl.

Do not use olive oil to treat your bowl, as it will turn rancid over time!
