Kelda is a self-taught artist from the south west whose artwork is inspired by the Welsh festive tradition of the Mari Lwyd. In her watercolours and digital works, Kelda has been actively trying to incorporate the deeper meaning of change, transition and hope associated with the tradition in her art.

‘Horse of Frost’ is inspired by Welsh poet Vernon Watkins poem ‘The Ballad of the Mari Lwyd’. One of the lines, Horse of Frost, was the focus of this piece. The idea was to show that despite the coldness of winter life continues to persist. Horse skulls have historically been symbols of protection against evil and it is hoped that this piece, as with the tradition, brings good fortune to you for the year ahead.

The painting has been created with Schmicke and Etchr metallic (mica) watercolour paints on cold press paper.
