“Midnight Ravens”: A Luminous Journey into a painted glass Dreamscape

Step into a world of vibrant colour and enchanting stories with “Midnight Ravens,” a stunning hand-painted glass panel by Herefordshire artist, Debbie. This piece is a breathtaking fusion of art and light, transforming any room into a gallery of luminous, dreamlike beauty.

Inspired by the rolling Malvern hills and the swirly, characterful trees of the countryside, Debbie paints freehand onto toughened glass, allowing each design to evolve organically. In “Midnight Ravens,” a magnificent, silhouetted tree acts as a stained-glass window into a magical world. Each leaf-shaped panel reveals a different scene: some hold the deep, star-dusted blues of a midnight sky where ravens take flight; others glow with the warm, golden light of a harvest moon or the rich fuchsia of a twilight sky.

Below this celestial canopy, a winding path meanders through verdant, rolling hills, inviting you on a journey through this captivating landscape. The use of glass as a canvas gives the artwork an incredible depth and vibrancy, as light passes through the rich colours, making them glow with an inner life. This is not just a painting; it’s a unique, one-off piece of art that captures the magic of the natural world and the boundless joy of the artist’s imagination.

Debbie was born in Herefordshire. Whilst at senior school she was inspired by her art teacher, Peter Horrocks, to follow her love of drawing and designing.
Her head was always full of inventive ideas and she decided to study Graphic Design at Herefordshire College of Art.

Many years later, having had two beautiful daughters, fate led her to working on a commission to design the interior of a restaurant.
Instead of painting the walls she designed dramatic glass partitions and that was the start of her specializing in painting on glass.

Years later, Debbie remarried and moved to a black and white cottage with views across the Malvern hills and this has inspired her to start creating a range of toughened hanging glass designs. The rolling hills, landscapes and swirly trees are all an inspirational to her and appear in her hand glass hangings which she creates using glass paints. All her hangings are one offs and she paints free hand with no firm plan of design, the content evolves and develops.

Debbie is happy to create anything on glass in almost any size. Landscapes, seascapes, your favourite walk ( Like the monkey puzzles on Hergest Ridge). She includes hares, whippetts, pheasants, whoopee birds, olive trees…the list is endless.
