After studying agriculture, John Twiddy began his working life on the Royal Farms in Windsor Great Park. When he acquired a farm in Radnorshire with a good workshop he was able to teach himself the skills of welding and construction which lead to an interest in creating more than just the gates and hurdles required for the farm. His skills gained him work with one of Britain’s top garden designers for whom he made complex structures to compliment his designs. Award winning gardens at Chelsea and show gardens at Olympia and Alexandra Palace produced further work for private and commercial clients, creating gardens some roof top, on some of London’s most prestigious houses and hotels. Working in a range of materials, including steel, glass, wood and stone he has created waterfalls and fountains, unusual garden furniture and planters. He has also used his talents to produce weird and wonderful props for film, TV, theatre, pop videos using fibre glass and plaster of Paris, one major project being the creation of scenery for Cardiff museum’s “Ice Age Exhibition” which filled an entire aircraft hangar. Living in Radnorshire where red kites wheel over the farm he has become inspired by them and the other wildlife that live there and begun using steel to create life size sculptures of birds which make an impact in any garden of whatever size.
