In the early 70s Vivienne trained in printed textiles at Leicester Polytechnic College. Her working career began as a freelance designer of printed carpets for the European and US markets. During this period she began teaching art and design in Further Education on a part-time basis, which then lead to her becoming Head of Department for art and design, working full-time in Further Education for 26 years in total. During her teaching career, she painted and exhibited as time allowed. Vivienne began painting professionally in 2005.
She is a member of The Royal Birmingham Society of Art (RBSA), Leicester Society of Art (LSA) and The Birmingham Watercolour Society (BWS).
Pattern, colour and natural form are the focus for Vivienne’s floral watercolours. Inspiration is sparked by the colours and shapes of flowers, gorgeous fabric, a special jug or vase. The contrast of natural form with geometric pattern is often a strong element in her work. She aims to produce a response in her painting that is fresh and contemporary, not merely a faithful reproduction and she is inspired by the information set out before her to produce a spontaneous reaction. It is an exciting journey which she hopes will help to keep her paintings alive with fresh, vibrant colour.
