Hilke was born 1964 in Germany and studied at the College for Art & Architecture in Kiel. After a diploma in architecture she worked for various architects until she moved to Scotland in 1995 and concentrated on art.
Her paintings, linocuts and ceramic reliefs are exhibited in galleries throughout Britain. Her work has been selected many times for the annual show at the Royal Scottish Academy.
Woodcuts are a relief printing technique in printmaking. An artist carves an image into the surface of a block of wood—typically with gouges—leaving the printing parts level with the surface while removing the non-printing parts.
Original Lino-cuts. Original means that a print is not multiplied from a photograph of an artwork. The lino-cuts are all hand printed from the linoleum plates. Each single print is therefore different from others of that edition. So it is classed as an original.
They are all printed on acid free printmaking paper with high quality ink. The design is cut out of a linoleum plate.
