Brian grew up on a small family farm in mid Worcestershire and after attending Art College focusing on fine art and sculpture, started on a career in furniture making following the inspiration of a favourite uncle who was always ‘messing around with bits of wood’.
These early influences have been reinforced by a keen interest in contemporary architecture and design, an awareness of the infinite possibilities inherent in natural materials, and the positive aspects of modern technologies.
Although the big challenge remains the designing and making of pieces from solid wood, and this increasingly sourced in the UK, any material that promises to stand the test of time is welcome; fitness for purpose and sound design and construction are the order of the day.
Brian’s other interests include landscape and the natural world, reading, cooking from around the world, music of all genres and a lifelong attempt to master the art of modern jazz trumpet playing.
