Artist Joanna Griffiths’s new oil paintings depict her most loved subject of the hills, farms and moorland which surround her home in the Welsh Marches. They show her fascination for details which make up a landscape: tall grasses bent and  battered by Winter; tiny yellow flowers opening on resilient gorse; and farmland bursting into life with lush new grass and thriving lambs. Snow features too, “Spring comes late in upland areas but gradually the bright, sharp sunlight breaks through the remaining snow and driving rain to reveal a glistening world brimming with life”.

Joanna studied Art Foundation at Hertfordshire College of Art and Design followed by a graphic design degree at London College of Printing in the early 1980s. She went on to enjoy a long and successful career as a graphic designer working with some of the UK’s best known companies. She was only able to develop her own creative work after she scaled back her design commitments and started to exhibit soon after. Principally a landscape painter Joanna uses a variety of media including pastel, acrylic ink and more recently oil on canvas. Her paintings depict the hills, farms and moorland which surround her home in the Welsh Marches.
