Heading the line up and new comer to the gallery is printmaker Holly Brookes. Inspired by the natural world Holly’s work also explores her fascination for detail and texture. We are once again delighted to have a new collection of acrylic paintings and mixed media sculpture by Shirley Vauvelle. Her sculptures range from small pieces that hang to more intricate free standing pieces which include vintage materials and maps of our local environment.
Returning to the gallery is Herefordshire based artist Peter Horrocks whose new collection of paintings in his “Strata Column” series will all be presented in box frames. His works continue to explore the use of natural earth pigments. The gesture and textural quality of the works are explored by using additional techniques involving graphite, using a variety of surfaces and even tearing the board’s surface. All these being discovered in natural forms that he explores in nature.
We welcome a new collection of art work by Jemima Jameson who works mainly in acrylics but has more recently included pen and inks and layers of Gesso and varnish to create a more textured finish. She enjoys painting onto wooden panels, bowls and furniture which suits her style.
Silversmith Chrissie Nash will once again present us with an eye catching collection of silver jewellery and semi-precious stone necklaces…lovely enough to adorn any party outfit!
Artist Rachel Sudworth’s paintings are rarely of specific places. She takes drawing, colour studies and photographs she has made in the landscape back to the studio where they are distilled and explored. The complete pieces convey an impression of time, place and season inviting the viewer’s interpretation and involvement.

Summer Exhibition 2015

Textile Collage - Summer Fields

Summer Exhibition  “Images and Reflections” opens on Sunday July 5 2015 and will feature a collection of collectable artists and makers, some new to the gallery.

This exhibition promises, once again, to inspire and excite collectors and appreciators of fine art and quality craft.

Textile artist Sue Williams who graduated from Herefordshire College of Art in 2001
with BA (Hons) in Design Crafts will be showing a collection of her latest textile collage paintings.
Landscapes are her inspiration, for this exhibition she has focused on Herefordshire, where light and colour evoke their unique atmosphere. Mountains, seascapes, vistas, of places she has travelled all inspire her. The nature of the terrain, from soft undulating hills in subtle tones and hues, to rugged scenes bathed in dramatic light.

New to the gallery is artist Caroline McLachlan who went to The Laird School of Art in Birkenhead.
She paints outside ‘en plein air,’ and applies the finishing touches in her studio. She paints in various media including watercolours, oils and acrylics, and mixed media.
She has painted an exciting collection of Shropshire landscapes and Pembrokeshire seascapes.

Potter Arwyn Jones works in what may be considered a traditional way, using the wheel to produce sound functional forms. His over riding intention is for the resulting wares to be undeniably functional and a pleasure to use.

Also new to the gallery will be Adrian Guest with his latest collection of stoneware garden sculptures to include a Hereford bull and sheep.

Finally we will have a new collection of jewellery from Hereford based Rozie Keogh, whose pieces are just perfect for those summer weddings and garden parties!

Our aim from the beginning has been to promote the work of British contemporary talented artists and makers, some already well known in their field and many talented new comers. Now in our 26th year, this continues as strongly as ever.

The exhibition will continue until the end of August 2015

Spring Exhibition 2015 “Be still and listen, the Earth is singing’

As the days gradually lengthen, we welcome the prospect of Spring at Old Chapel Gallery, Pembridge. Our Spring Exhibition which opens on Sunday March 8th entitled

“Be still and listen, the Earth is singing’ encompasses a collection of hand picked desirable British made art and craft including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, etchings, jewellery, automata and collographs.

The line up of collectable and appealing art, all inspired by nature, strikes a heartening mood of optimism.

Heading the line up is well known watercolour artist Mary Ann Rogers who gained the coveted award ‘Best Selling Published Artist 2009’
“The quick and lively work of Mary Ann Rogers is a real treat… her animals are depicted with a spine-tingling and inspiring virtuosity… she achieves a sense of oriental delicacy of touch which defies description.”

New to the gallery is artist illustrator Sam Cannon who works in watercolour, gouache, coloured and graphite pencil on board or paper incorporating well known quotes in text. For example ‘Be still and listen, the Earth is singing’ the title of this exhibition.

Another new comer is potter Mel Chambers who creates Raku fired ceramic tiles that are carefully painted and include quotes. Each tile is made individually by hand using ancient techniques dating back to Roman times. The tiles are created by carving into the clay whilst it is still wet and then using coloured slip to bring images and words to life making each tile unique.

Talented automata maker Wanda Sowry uses reclaimed natural wood and colourful off-cuts to put together her mechanical designs. Each handmade Automaton has a system of cogs built inside it – turn the handle and the Automaton comes to life. She keeps the mechanisms quite simple, she doesn’t paint or varnish the wood but uses different natural colours of wood instead.

Leoma Drew creates a beautiful range of wearable wing inspired jewellery using saw piercing, shape forming and stone setting. She incorporates motifs with solid shapes for an abstract and contemporary feel. The black and white effect is contrasted with bright and unusually cut stones that complement each other perfectly. Her jewellery and objects are influenced by each other and these pieces represent sentimentality which is enhanced by the intimacy created between object and body.
Gill Tenant Eyles creates one off ceramic sculptural pieces made in Raku and reduction stoneware. Her work is hand built and reflects her lifelong fascination with texture, pattern and colour, drawing inspiration from the natural world, especially the wild seashore.
To compliment the exhibition there will be a new collection of etchings by Jenny Devereux, original paintings by Peter Horrocks and collographs by recently graduated Holly Brookes.
